National Law Journal Names Whistleblower Rights Firm as one of America’s Top Plaintiff’s Law Firms
Kohn, Kohn and Colapinto Honored for “Doing the Most Creative and Most Important Work in the Courtroom”
Washington, D.C., September 29, 2014. In recognition of the growing importance of whistleblower litigation, The National Law Journal named the whistleblower advocacy law firm of Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto as one of top fifty plaintiff’s law firms in the United States. The firm’s partners were officially named as among “America’s Elite Trial Lawyers.”
In its September 29, 2014 article, “Elite Trial Lawyers: The 50 Leading Plaintiff’s Firms in America,” the National Law Journal named Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto as one of the firm’s “doing the most creative and most important work in the courtroom.”
This honor acknowledged the firm’s thirty-year history of successfully advocating for whistleblowers and setting numerous important precedents expanding the scope of whistleblower protections nationwide. It also recognized the importance of the firm’s victory on behalf of UBS Swiss bank whistleblower Bradley Birkenfeld, whose $104 million dollar reward was the largest whistleblower award ever obtained by an individual employee.
The National Law Journal’s list recognized America’s most successful plaintiffs law firms “that are on the cutting edge of plaintiffs-side work in the United States and that have achieved exemplary results for their clients,” according to the Journal.
Stephen M. Kohn, one of Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto’s founding partners, thanked the Journal for its recognition: “After thirty years of fighting hard on to increase whistleblower rights, we deeply appreciate the recognition given to our efforts by the National Law Journal. Whistleblowers risk their jobs and careers trying to do the right thing, and it has been our honor representing these courageous individuals.“
The National Law Journal’s Announcement
The National Law Journal issued the following statement when announcing its selection of “Elite Trial Lawyers:”
“The National Law Journal and Law.com are pleased to recognize the honorees for the 2014 Elite Trial Lawyers. Attorneys recognized here have done exemplary and cutting-edge work on behalf of their clients, and are established leaders in the area of plaintiff law.
“In the top 100 verdicts of last year, trial lawyers won more than $10 billion for their clients. The sums are staggering, but the results go far beyond money. The efforts of the plaintiffs’ bar changed lives and rewrote public and corporate policies. For those of us who observe and report on the legal profession, this work is among the most important being done by lawyers, with wide-ranging impact on the practice of law and the business of law firms.
“Because of this, we are pleased to announce our first-ever Elite Trial Lawyers awards project. For this recognition program, we are focusing on U.S.-based firms that have done exemplary and cutting-edge work on behalf of plaintiffs.
“Our effort is different from what other organizations have done. We are not only interested in dollar recoveries but in the complexity and impact of cases. And we are recognizing the firm as a whole, understanding that great trial work is often the result of a team effort.”
