Endangered Species Act

Attorneys representing whistleblowers under the Endangered Species Act

Awards are now available for anyone who can provide information about a violation of a wildlife protection law. There are currently four acts, the Lacey Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Rhinoceros and Tiger Conservation Act, and the Fish and Wildlife Improvement Act, that include provisions granting awards to whistleblowers who report any violations.

Section 1540(d) holds that:

“The Secretary or the Secretary of the Treasury shall pay, from sums received as penalties, fines, or forfeitures of property for any violation of this chapter or any regulation issued hereunder a reward to any person who furnishes information which leads to an arrest, a criminal conviction, civil penalty assessment, or forfeiture of property for any violation of this chapter or any regulation issued hereunder”

16 U.S.C. § 1540(d)
