Wildlife Trafficking

The illegal wildlife trade, a multi-billion dollar criminal enterprise ($48-153 billion annually), is pushing countless endangered species towards extinction. Plants, fish, and animals are all being snatched from their homes, threatening the delicate balance of our ecosystems.

In the United States, people with information about wildlife trafficking can report it to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under the Lacey Act. This law is being improved, but currently allows individuals to report violations and potentially get rewarded for their bravery.

There are three key U.S. laws offering financial rewards for wildlife whistleblowers: the Lacey Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Fish and Wildlife Improvement Act.

Due to ongoing legislative changes, potential whistleblowers must check for updates before filing a case.
